Alpine Adventure for Mini Explorers

There is literally something for everyone here. From extreme mountaineering to lazing at a mountain lake. Chamonix has it all, providing endless fun for every member of the family, even the littlest ones. 

We welcome a lot of families in the summer, planning itineraries for all ages. We can guarantee the youngsters of the group will have equally as many activity options as the adults. No one will feel left out on a Amazon Creek Alpine Adventure vacation! Chamonix is full of things to do in the great outdoors for all ages and abilities. We have worked with experts in outdoor fun for years and have come to know and personally recommend guides & instructors to our clients. 

So, with the children in mind, we thought we would let you into a few top activities, pre-approved by our mini guests, that you should consider for your mini adventurers on your next visit. 

PiouPiou

There are some great children's camps available throughout the summer. We highly recommend the PiouPiou camps organised by the Guides de Chamonix. Piou Piou is specially designed for 3-7 year-olds and offers full day and half day options. Amazon Creek's MD Lisa sends her children to Piou Piou as do a lot of the local valley families. Piou Piou is a great way for younger adventurers to experience the outdoors with qualified experts trained in FUN! They also run groups for older children. BIKING

How about some family cycle time? From your chalet, there are cycle routes the length of Chamonix. The trails will lead you through the forests, along the river, through ancient villages and directly into Chamonix town itself. Teenagers might want to take the extreme up a gear (couldn't resist...). How about going biking off-road and downhill. With downhill courses in the resorts of Le Tour and Les Houches, take the lifts to the top and take your pick from a variety of marked routes. We recommend you hire an expert from ChamonixMTB to learn, improve and find all the secret spots. 

HORSE RIDING

An activity we always hear raving reviews about is the horse trekking adventures. No prior experience is necessary and this can be a great family day out. With the Mont Blanc riding school individuals and groups can take a hike ride adventure through the valley for a full or half day duration. There is also the wonderful Plan Praz play area hiding in the forest. There, apart from a wealth of fun in the soft play park and ankle deep river streams are ponies for hire. Ideal for the tiniest of riders.

VIA FERRATA

If getting up high is a must then why not try a day of Via Feratta (meaning iron rods in Italian). First established as a way for the military to scale extreme heights safety with heavy equipment. Roped to your guide you will negotiate iron fixed rods, wires, bolts and lots of handmade features, it allows novices to climb to reach great heights and feel exposed routes while following a fixed steel guideline and lots of easy to negotiate holds. Still, this isn't something for the faint-hearted or those who suffer with vertigo! This activity is great to keep the teens busy on vacation. We recommend Chamonix Experience to supply all the expertise and equipment for our clients Via Ferrata trips. Minimum age 10 years. 

CLIMBING 

If Via Ferrata is appealing for the mini adrenaline junkies then how about the chance to scale a rock? Hire a guide from one of the oldest climbing companies in the world, these guides helped with the first ascent of Mont Blanc back in the 1700's. This is another fun for all the family activity with routes that will challenge all levels accessible from the same rock face. The great thing is even the smallest of climbers can have a great day out.

RAFTING

How about splashing into the freshest water you've ever felt. Glacial melt and a fast current provide amazing fun on Chamonix's river Arve. This is a great option on a hot day or raining day and can be totally catered to the level of the rafters. Anyone from 10 years old up can hop in and feel the full force of water melting off Mont Blanc. We have had many trips with clients, friends and family, here at Amazon Creek and it's always been a day full of laughter and excitement. We can highly recommend Yellow Rafting!

ACRO'PARC

A really popular option for our little adventurers is the safe yet extremely exciting Acro Parcs in Chamonix. There are two in the valley and both offer various levels where confidence can be gained and new challenges conquered. The entire family can get involved and can be enjoyed at your leisure. This family activity comes as a well-recommended activity by all our guests. From age 3 years. Why not take a picnic and make a day of it!
