Restaurants & Bars in Sète

A few minutes’ walk from Villa Frankie and Villa Freya there are three restaurants to be found along the beachfront!

La O La

A busy restaurant offering delicious salads and typical fish dishes. Located directly opposite the villas on the beach. There are English-speaking serving staff and excellent service with a small but lovely menu. The salads are very reasonably priced, whilst pricing for the rest of the menu is average for this region. There is also a good selection of wines available.

More expensive than La O La, yet the quality of food, and ambience of this restaurant definitely scores higher. We can recommend the starter of sardines! They have an excellent selection of wines available. It’s located to the left of the beach promenade. T: 04 67 43 56 99

La Voile Rouge — Our top pick!

Our favourite of the three. There is an extensive menu: try the Voile Rouge Burger (€25), consisting of a fillet steak in a bun, topped with a perfectly-cooked piece of fresh fois gras! The presentation of the food is beautiful, and although portions appeared smaller than expected when they were first brought out – we were definitely full at the end of the meal. Excellent selection of wines available. Located 15 mins walk along the beach promenade (turn left!), close to the Huit á 8, and just past the pontoon where we can pick you up on the boat.

In Central Sète

There are a number of ‘fish restaurants’ that run along the canal, most of which provide a similar menu, and similar service. In busy summer weeks, restaurants fill up quickly, so if you have not booked a table, then this can be a good place to wander down and find a spot. At the end of this row (closest to the sea) is a lovely Tapas restaurant, which also serves as an art gallery and bar (great Mojitos) and has a great atmosphere and outdoor seating area.

Terre et Mer— Our top pick!

Our FAVOURITE local restaurant by far! Located just as you arrive into Sète, just around the corner from the Théatre de la Mer. No view, but the food and ambiance more than makes up for this. The food is delicious, looks great, and we have eaten here several times just so that we could try more of the dishes on offer! Menu is reasonably priced – and the staff are very friendly. Very small restaurant that needs to be booked in advance. A visit to Terre et Mer is a must during your stay!

La Bistrot du Port

Large restaurant found along the waterfront as you drive into town. We have mixed opinions of this restaurant. The wine list was basic, and the ‘Aioli et pommes de terres’ dish eagerly ordered by three of our number was very heavy on the garlic . On the other hand, the waiting staff were friendly and the ‘scallops in a truffle sauce’ were divine! A very popular restaurant with the locals.

Au Feu de Bois

This restaurant is set around an open fire, where your chef will grill your meat or fish right before your eyes. Other dishes are available, but the grilled chicken and the steak we tried were delicious, accompanied by excellent sauces and sides. Good service and reasonable prices.

Le Jasmin

Located opposite Au Feu de Bois, this Vietnamese restaurant has an excellent selection of dishes. As the French generally don’t like their food too hot, Le Jasmin set a bowl of chilli on your table so you can add to taste. An excellent choice for a change from the touristy fish restaurants along the canal.
