On this, the second instalment of our Luxury Lunch series we thought we would stick closer to home (the office) and to a location that is as busy in the winter as the summer, the delectable Cool Cats where gourmet hotdogs are the speciality.

Homemade or locally sourced from the utensils to the buns, Cool Cats offers a significant upgrade on what we have come to know as the humble hotdog experience.

“All of our sausages are the speciality of the region including the famous smoked diot sausage. Our bread comes from a small bakery just down the road from the restaurant, our eggs are free-range and organic and our beer and soft drinks are made in Annecy with organic ingredients.”- Head Chef, Lisa Moussine-Pouchkine Wallen

Forget frankfurters this establishment want you to feast on lamb, chorizo, falafel, Savoyard sausage and home cut sweet potato fries that are dangerously moreish. With freshly baked buns encasing a delicious meat and side sauce we quickly realised that there wasn’t going to be a lot of talking amongst us this lunchtime. Once our hotdogs arrived, we could only focus on one thing.

“We have a weekly special, where all the chefs  have a chance to inspire a new dish” - Head of Haus-Hot Dog Olivia Greus

The menu at Cool Cats has an array of great combos to suit every taste, and they are extremely accommodating for the veggie/gluten free/ dairy free eaters offerings alterations on any of the menu classics. They also host a daily special (and when its the duck, you better act fast).

We ordered one Big Apple (Head Chef Lisa's favourite meal) a blue cheese, apple and BBQ sauce triumph, one Hummus Wrap A La Veggie, which includes homemade hummus and falafel that we can personally vouch can’t be beaten this side of Egypt and finally, one jacket potato with Chilli con Carne (just to really explore the menu in its fullest). All to be washed down with locally made lemonade. YUM.  We asked Head of House Olivia what her fav dog & drink combo was:

“Our homemade prosecco sangria with the delicious nachos, served with pico de gallo, lemon marinated avocado and a feta yoghurt dip” - Olivia

#yummy

There really weren’t many words spoken over lunch, the portions are super generous at Cool Cats and with each mouthful being even more appealing than the last, it was only when we had neared the end of our respective meals did we make start to make eye contact again, and even then it was simply to reaffirm with each other how much we enjoyed our meals.

It's not just the food at Cool Cats it's the entire experience. The location is at the sun-exposed open end of Rue du Moulin, one of the most fun streets in Chamonix for food and nightlife.  Cool Cats provides a day time urban paradise with comfortable outdoor seating, tables in the sun, an external cocktail bar and the service with a serious smile. Head of haus-hotdog, Olivia takes her work extremely seriously, her attention to detail and customer service is fabulous. As is owner Illia's who along with his wife Lisa and a brand new baby girl live and run their family business in Chamonix after Lisa’s departure from the busy world of London. There she owned and operated a successful restaurant on Portobello Rd. Lisa & Illa have brought their London vibe to Chamonix with an urban / streetfood eatery vibe unlike anywhere in the town. It's fun vibrant atmosphere only makes the amazing hotdogs even better.

Cool Cats Hot Dogs is a must visit in our opinion. Gourmet food, where the amazing views from your table are only second to the amazing food on it.
